Ethnic rhinoplasty represents a transformative approach to nasal surgery that honors cultural identity while enhancing natural beauty. Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Arman Vartany is recognized internationally as an expert rhinoplasty surgeon, having performed more than 3,000 nose jobs. Women and men considering ethnic rhinoplasty travel from throughout the Los Angeles area to his practice near Glendale, California.
What Is Ethnic Rhinoplasty?
This specialized procedure focuses on refining nasal features to create facial harmony without compromising heritage. For patients seeking balanced, authentic results, ethnic rhinoplasty offers personalized solutions tailored to diverse anatomical structures and aesthetic goals.
Unlike traditional rhinoplasty, which often follows a standardized Western ideal, ethnic rhinoplasty techniques address unique anatomical characteristics across Middle Eastern, Hispanic, African American, Asian, and Indigenous populations.
For instance, some ethnic groups have nasal skin that is comparatively thicker than others. A plastic surgeon performing rhinoplasty must consider this when creating a surgical plan. Dr. Vartany creates noses that complement overall facial aesthetics by considering cheekbone structure, eye shape, and lip proportions. A Middle Eastern patient might receive dorsal hump reduction with tip projection, while an African American patient could achieve subtle nostril refinement without losing nasal width.

How Much Does Ethnic Rhinoplasty Cost?
The cost of ethnic rhinoplasty at our Burbank practice varies, depending on the changes needed to accomplish your aesthetic goals. More complicated procedures often require more time in the operating room, which affects the total cost. When comparing the costs at different practices, you should consider the surgeon’s experience and expertise and the practice’s geographic location.
Following your consultation, we prepare a detailed price quote that you can review at home before making a decision about the procedure. (All pricing and terms are subject to change without notice.) We also offer financing with attractive payment plans.
During your consultation, Dr. Vartany may ask about your cultural background, aesthetic goals, and if you have any difficulty breathing through your nose, in addition to more general questions about your medical history. Based on his expertise, Dr. Vartany uses the information he gathers during the consultation to pursue a surgical approach to achieving your goals.
An ethnic rhinoplasty procedure may involve:
Closed rhinoplasty for minimal scarring in thick-skinned patients
Cartilage augmentation to strengthen nasal bridges
Alar base reduction for proportional nostrils
Tip refinement using suture techniques

Ethnic Rhinoplasty Recovery
The recovery following an ethnic rhinoplasty procedure is much the same as any nose job. It is very important to get plenty of rest, especially during the first 24 hours after the surgery. Make sure a family member or friend stays with you during this time. Rhinoplasty recovery varies depending on the specifics of each surgery and personal factors, but patients are often pleasantly surprised after surgery because the discomfort they experience is far less than they expected. Dr. Vartany doesn’t use nasal packing, which many patients find to be the most uncomfortable part of rhinoplasty.
You can typically expect to return to work or school within 1 to 3 weeks. Applying ice packs over your eyelids during the first 48 hours can help reduce swelling and bruising and you should sleep with your head propped up for the first 2 weeks.
Dr. Vartany removes the nasal splint placed over your nose during surgery at your first post-op appointment. It’s important to resist the urge to blow your nose for at least 10 days.
We provide detailed post-op instructions that can help you recover as quickly and as comfortably as possible.

Your nose will be very swollen on the day Dr. Vartany removes the splint about a week after surgery. You may even believe your nose is wider than before the surgery. This excessive swelling gradually goes down during the first 3 weeks after surgery. Residual swelling persists, especially on the tip of the nose, and it can be up to a year before patients see the final results of their nose jobs.
